Last weekend our sweet Claire turned 5! What a huge milestone this is! She is very excited to be 5 and is ready for the big step of going to Kindergarten in the fall. It is fun to see our baby Claire grow into a girl full of questions, ideas, and opinions! She is definitely our little artist and scientist. Arts and crafts are her favorite thing to do. I love the drawings she brings home from school and the stories she tells me that go along with them. Claire also enjoys science. I signed her up for Junior Chemical Engineering through the park district and she looks forward to it every week. Blake and her are doing it together so it is a fun brother and sister outing for them. In January she started taking guitar lessons. We are always surprised at the ideas and passions of this girl! I love that she doesn't care what others think and goes after the things she wants. Music is something she really enjoys and I hope she continues to explore it. She is not into dolls and would rather be out in the yard digging for bugs or planting flowers. She still loves plenty of "girl" things like dresses, nail polish, and hairstyles. One of her requests for her 5th birthday was pink hair! Where does she come up with this stuff?
We found some hair chalk (actually a gel that you apply) and I was able to make her wish come true. We went with pink highlights instead of a full pink hairdo...haha. She was so excited and I think wants to keep this look. It still hasn't washed out yet so maybe it isn't as temporary as I thought?
We had her party at Build-a-bear workshop with just a few close friends. Everyone got to make their own stuffed animal. Somehow all the girls chose my little ponies. Blake went with a star wars bear and Madeline made a doggie of course.
Their best silly faces!
The birthday girl got to blow out a special stuffed cupcake after we sang to her!
Madeline carrying her dog around.
After build-a-bear we went out for ice cream. Found a great spot to sit and watch the fountain. The girls were too cute talking and eating like little teenagers.
They were all so excited to open gifts.
After dinner at Dewey's Pizza we had cake at home with the family.
Claire had decided to have a pink pony cake which ended up going along with the theme of the day.
She helped me make it the night before (always into baking and creating things).
She was in charge of sprinkles and helping fill the icing bags!
Grandma O'Donnell flew in for the weekend to celebrate with us!
Yes those bags under our eyes are real! We were all exhausted by the end of the day!
What a fun birthday celebration.
When I put Claire to bed that night she said she wished it was her birthday again tomorrow because she had the best day! Such a sweet girl!
The birthday girl!
On the 15th Claire lost her first tooth! A few days later she came home with another lost tooth that fell out during Montessori. She was so proud to be part of the "I've lost a tooth club". I don't know what it is about losing teeth but it is a big thing to brag about at this age. Two before kindergarten?
Sisters enjoying the first picnic of the year.
I love the relationship that the girls have. It will be fun to watch it grow and change over the years!
I am sure big sister Claire will have a lot of advice for her little sister.
Happy Birthday Sweet Claire! We are so excited for this year and what it holds for you!
Love,
Mom & Dad
